Midnight Typist — Free Zombie Typing Game
The swamp is waking up. Your escape route is gone, the undead are closing in, and your keyboard is the only thing keeping the porch standing. Midnight Typist turns typing practice into a colorful survival game where accurate letters fire weapons, clear threats and buy you another moment to think.
Play directly in your browser. Follow Eli Reed through a 192-stage Campaign, face twelve different guardians, or hold out against increasingly difficult waves in Survival. Begin with a bow, earn equipment through play, and decide which danger deserves your next word. The game is in beta, with progress saved on this device separately from your real TypersWorld profile.
How to play the zombie typing game
Choose Campaign to begin the story, or choose Survival and an Easy, Normal or Hard difficulty. Words appear above approaching enemies. Start typing a word to aim at its target. Each accepted letter triggers a shot and removes a letter from that enemy's remaining word. Finish the word to defeat it, then move to the next threat.
Read the letters exactly. Lowercase and capital letters are different inputs, so a word beginning with a capital needs the same capital from your keyboard. Hard mode mixes ordinary lowercase words with first-letter capitals. A fast sequence of incorrect keystrokes spends time while the horde keeps moving. Clear, accurate input gives you a steadier way through a crowded wave.
Use Tab to select the nearest enemy. Press Escape to release a selected target, or press it again when nothing is selected to pause. Shift+Tab also releases your selection. Number keys 1–5 switch between weapons you own. Space selects an incoming acid projectile, while Shift+Space selects an available bomb. The targeting controls and displayed words remain visible during a fight.
A broken bowstring or overheated gun needs attention. The central repair panel shows an ordinary word to type before that weapon can fire again. You can switch to another owned weapon while managing the problem. Utility words still let you detonate bombs or activate Freeze during repairs, which creates room to recover when several enemies arrive together.
Practise typing speed, accuracy and keyboard confidence
Midnight Typist gives repeated keyboard practice a changing purpose. You read a word, enter it accurately and immediately see the result in the battlefield. As enemies approach, you practise keeping your eyes on the screen and finding keys without interrupting your rhythm. Capital letters add a reason to use Shift comfortably, while repair and power-up words encourage quick changes between different letter patterns.
The live WPM display estimates your pace using five correct characters per word and the active time in your run. Paused time is excluded. Accuracy reflects your accepted and mistaken inputs, so you can watch the relationship between speed and control. Start with a comfortable difficulty and compare several runs using similar equipment. An upgraded weapon can change your survival time even when your typing speed stays the same.
The game exercises short-word recognition, sustained attention and typing under time pressure. Longer, connected passages give you a different kind of practice with sentence rhythm and punctuation. Combine a few waves with a regular typing test or a lesson session when you want a broader practice routine. Improvement depends on the way you practise and how consistently you return.
For a calmer pace, try the free typing lessons. For a consistent timed comparison, use the one-minute typing test. Both are separate from this game's local beta records.
A 192-stage Campaign and endless Survival
Campaign follows twelve chapters. Each chapter has fifteen regular stages followed by a boss fight. Completing a stage opens the next part of the route. New enemy groups arrive gradually, giving you time to learn their movement, words and attacks before later stages combine them. Beating a guardian introduces another enemy body into the following chapter and advances the equipment milestones available in the Armory.
Watch the silhouettes as well as the words. Thin runners close gaps quickly. Heavy brutes demand more sustained attention. Throwers send bottles toward the porch, birds approach through the air, and burrowers tear out of the ground. Bosses have their own environments and escalating attacks, including bottle volleys and summoned enemies. A large crowd can require a different target order from a single powerful attacker.
Survival keeps going as its waves grow harder. Its available enemy groups and bosses follow your Campaign unlocks, so the creatures you encounter reflect your progress. Survival continues indefinitely. Try to extend your run, preserve your lives and improve your best score while adapting to the next wave.
Earn weapons, improve equipment and plan your upgrades
Your first weapon is the bow. Clearing Campaign stages opens purchase milestones for the sidearm, scattergun, ember carbine and blast launcher. Earn coins from combat and completed stages, then choose between new equipment and strengthening what you already own. Diamonds are rarer rewards, and the Armory shows the alternative price where they can be used.
Each weapon has ten ranks. Upgrades change its appearance, increase its working capacity and shorten the words needed to service it. Firearms recover from heat more quickly as they improve. Higher ranks require Campaign milestones as well as currency, which makes planning part of the challenge. New survivors begin with two lives, with resilience upgrades eventually raising that limit to fifteen.
Carrier enemies can leave bombs with their own typing words. Select a bomb to see its blast radius, then finish its word to damage nearby enemies. Grenade upgrades expand the radius and increase the number of letters removed by the blast. Their cooldown controls when future drops can appear. Freeze provides a different opening by slowing enemies while you clear a crowded part of the bank.
Weapon finishes, outfits, hats and character options let you change your survivor's look. Achievements provide longer goals and one-time rewards for sustained play, such as defeating enemies, completing stages and reaching score milestones. Those rewards belong to this device's beta progression.
How competitive is Midnight Typist?
The pressure comes from making accurate decisions while several threats move at once. A short word on a fast runner may need attention before a long word on a distant brute. A well-timed Freeze or bomb can create breathing room, but repairing at the wrong moment can leave the porch exposed. Strong typing helps you respond quickly, while equipment and target selection shape how far you get.
Your score rewards correct letters, streaks and defeated enemies. Challenge your own records for score, accuracy and survival time, and replay stages to improve your result. Compare runs with the same difficulty and equipment for a clearer personal challenge. This beta is single-player and stores records locally. If you want a live opponent, enter a separate multiplayer typing race on TypersWorld.
Eli's story and the last route out of the swamp
Eli Reed was a rescue-radio operator before contaminated floodwater spread through Mirewell. During the evacuation, a collapsing dock crushed his leg while he was saving his daughter June. He survives on a reinforced porch, unable to run ahead of the creatures crossing the bank. A bow gives him his first chance to hold the line.
Mechanic Nessa sends salvaged equipment along a winch and helps move the porch between cleared canal territories. Eli follows broken radio transmissions toward Beacon Lock, where he hopes to find June. Every cleared chapter reveals more of the outbreak, the contaminated pumps and the route he needs to open. His field journal records the messages as the Campaign unfolds.
Build a typing practice routine around a few waves
Begin with a short session at a difficulty where you can read targets comfortably. Keep your shoulders relaxed and let accuracy set your pace. Once ordinary words feel manageable, practise capital letters, switching targets and repairing without rushing. Finish by checking both WPM and mistakes, then pick one thing to work on during the next run.
Use a physical keyboard for the clearest control of combat and shortcuts. The page and menus adapt to smaller screens, but a desktop or laptop gives more space for approaching words. Sound is optional, and the game includes separate volume and visual-effects controls. You can pause to rest, adjust settings or read this guide before returning to the fight.
Midnight Typist questions and answers
Is Midnight Typist free to play?
Yes. You can play the browser beta for free without creating an account. Coins and diamonds are earned through gameplay and achievements. Beta progress is stored on the current device separately from your real TypersWorld profile.
How do I shoot zombies in this typing game?
Type the word above a zombie exactly as it appears. Each correct letter fires your equipped weapon and removes a letter from the target. Tab selects the nearest enemy, and Escape releases your selection. Type the displayed repair word when a bowstring breaks or a gun overheats.
Are capital letters required?
Yes. Typing is case-sensitive. A capital letter requires Shift or Caps Lock, and entering a lowercase letter in its place counts as a mistake. Hard difficulty uses lowercase and first-letter capitals rather than words written entirely in capitals.
What is the difference between Campaign and Survival?
Campaign has 192 stages across twelve chapters, with a boss after every fifteen regular stages. Progress unlocks enemies and equipment milestones. Survival is an endless challenge that becomes harder over time and uses the enemy groups and bosses you have unlocked through Campaign.
Can I compete with other players?
Midnight Typist is a single-player game. You can challenge your own best score, accuracy and survival time. Beta game results do not enter the public typing-test leaderboards. For live competition with other players, use the separate TypersWorld multiplayer typing race.
Can I play with a phone or tablet?
The menus and guide adapt to smaller screens. A physical keyboard is recommended for combat, capital letters and targeting shortcuts. A desktop or laptop offers more space to read approaching words and manage several targets.
